What will AgriMarketing actually pay for?
The AgriMarketing Program's Market Diversification stream funds seventy per cent of a market-entry project, and the reason applications fail is rarely the company.
It is that the activity was outside the program, or the money was spent before the application was complete. Both are knowable in advance.
Pick what you want to spend on
Fundable
Depends, and here is what on
A trade show booth
The participation, yes. The stand itself, only within a narrow capital rule.
DependsTranslation, and label artwork for a market
Translation is named. Whether your artwork counts turns on how market-specific it is.
DependsCertification obtained to enter a market
It can sit inside a market-entry project. It is not a named activity, so it is an argument to make.
DependsYour own staff time
Salaries are a cost category, capped at around a quarter of the project.
Outside the program
Developing or reformulating a product
No. Product development and the promotion of technologies are both named as ineligible.
Not eligibleA new website or brand refresh
Not as a general improvement. The program names untargeted websites as its own example of what is out.
Not eligibleEquipment, software or plant
No. Capital eligibility is limited to displays bought exclusively for trade shows and promotion.
Not eligibleWork on a market your sector already sells to
Not as a rule, and the five-year test is about your sector rather than about you.
Before the activity question: are you eligible
Every one of these has to be true. Two of them do real filtering, and the fifth is an argument rather than a fact about your company.
- 1A for-profit organisation, which may include a partnership, corporation, co-operative or commune, or Indigenous: a First Nation, Inuk or Métis individual or organisation, including a community, government, association or for-profit organisation
- 2Operating in the agriculture, agri-food and agri-products industry, including the fish and seafood industry
- 3Directly involved in growing, harvesting, processing, or otherwise transforming or consolidating your products
- 4Fewer than 500 full-time equivalent employees
- 5Able to demonstrate how the project targets new opportunities in high-growth potential and non-traditional markets, to increase and diversify exports and strengthen interprovincial trade
- 6A legal entity capable of entering into legally binding agreements
The three periods, and only one is fundable
This decides more outcomes than the eligibility list does, and it is the part companies discover afterwards.
Before your application is deemed complete
Not eligible, and not counted toward your own thirty per cent cost share either. Money spent here is spent twice.
After completion, before a contribution agreement is signed
May not be reimbursed, and you may be solely responsible for it. The project feels started and the funding is not secured.
After both parties sign
Fundable, within the cost categories and their caps.
This does not answer CanExport
CanExport SMEs is the other federal program exporters ask about, and it is not covered here. Its rules live on a Government of Canada host that refuses requests from our infrastructure.
Every answer we gave would come from memory rather than from a page we opened and dated.
That is a worse outcome than an absence.
A funding answer is acted on by somebody about to commit money, and the two programs differ on cost share, on who is eligible and on what counts as a fundable activity.
We would rather tell you the gap exists.
