Terms of use

Updated September 17, 2026

These terms govern your use of this website. They are not the agreement under which we would do work for you: that is a separate document, signed by both of us, and nothing here replaces it.

Using the site means you accept what follows.

What this site is

A reference on exporting Canadian food to six Southeast Asian markets, a directory of Canadian exporters, and a description of the services we sell.

It is published by Boreal Trade.

The information here is reference, not advice

Every regulatory value on this site carries the source we read it from and the date we read it. That is a statement about how we work. It is not a guarantee about the world.

Tariff schedules, registration procedures, certification requirements and recognition lists change. Sometimes they change without notice, and sometimes the change applies to goods already in transit. A figure that was correct on the date shown beside it can be wrong today, and the date is there precisely so you can judge how much weight it will carry.

So use it the way it is built to be used. Read the figure, follow the link to the authority that published it, and confirm it yourself before you price a shipment or commit capital.

Nothing on this site is legal, customs, tax, or classification advice, and reading it does not make us your advisers.

Classification and compliance remain yours

The tariff classification that applies to your goods is a legal determination made by the customs authority of the importing country, on the basis of your product and your documentation. A classification shown on this site is our reading of the schedule for a general description of a product. It is a starting point for your own determination and it does not bind any authority.

The same goes for registration, labelling, certification and origin documentation. The obligation is yours, or your importer's, and it stays there.

Where a value on this site is marked as not yet verified, it means we have not confirmed it. It does not mean zero, it does not mean nothing applies, and it should not be read as an estimate. Treat it as unknown and find out.

The exporter directory

Directory entries describe third-party companies and are compiled from public registers and each company's own published material. A listing is not a recommendation, an endorsement, or a statement that the company is suitable for what you need.

We verify the regulatory facts we publish about a listed company, such as a registration number on an official list. We do not audit their solvency, their capacity, their quality systems, or how they behave commercially. Do your own diligence before you buy from anybody.

A listed company can have its entry corrected or removed by asking.

Buyer requests

A published buyer request is one we have verified, discussed with the buyer, and hold their consent to publish. That is the standard, and a request that fails any part of it does not appear.

It is still not a guarantee. A published requirement is not an offer to buy, not a commitment by the buyer to place an order, and not a promise that the buyer will accept your quotation or your price. Requirements are withdrawn, budgets are cut, and buyers change their minds, and none of that is within our control.

Anything labelled as an illustrative example is exactly that. It is written to show the format, the company in it does not exist, and it describes no real demand.

Samples and downloads

Sample assessments and downloadable material are illustrative. They use real regulatory values for real markets, and they are written about example products rather than about yours. Read them to judge whether our work is worth buying, not as an assessment of your own line.

Engaging us

Nothing on this site is an offer, a quotation, or a commitment to act. We take on work under a separate written agreement that sets out the scope, the fee and what each side is responsible for, and until that is signed by both of us there is no engagement and no duty of care owed.

Submitting a form does not create one either. It starts a conversation.

What you may do with the content

Read it, use it in your own commercial decisions, and quote from it with attribution and a link back to the page you took it from. We would rather be cited than hidden.

What we ask you not to do is take the compilation. Systematically copying the directory, the product classifications or the market data, scraping the site, or republishing a substantial part of it as your own material is not on. The individual facts belong to the authorities that published them; the work of finding, checking, dating and assembling them is ours.

Also please do not attempt to disrupt the site, probe it, or use the enquiry forms for anything other than a genuine enquiry.

Ownership

The text, structure, design and compilation on this site belong to us.

Material quoted from government sources belongs to the authorities that published it and is reproduced here so that a reader can check our work. Photography is used under the licence of the service it comes from.

Links to other sites

This site links heavily to government and regulatory sources, because that is the point of it. Those sites are not ours. We do not control what they publish, we cannot promise a link will still work, and a link is not an endorsement of anything else on the site it points to.

Availability and liability

The site is provided as it is. We work hard on accuracy and we do not warrant that it is complete, current or uninterrupted.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the site or from reliance on information published on it, including commercial loss, lost profit, or the cost of a shipment that did not clear. This is the reason the source and the date sit beside every value: so that you can verify before you rely.

Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited under Canadian law, including liability for fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.

Changes to these terms

The date at the top of this page is the date the wording last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised version.
