Icing Sugar: export from Canada to ASEAN

Icing sugar is milled refined sugar with an anti-caking agent, and both elements are specification points. Particle size determines smoothness in the finished product and how readily the sugar dissolves; the anti-caking agent (commonly corn starch, sometimes an alternative) requires destination clearance and has to be declared.

That anti-caking system is the item that most often needs checking before export. A starch that is standard in Canada may not be the permitted or expected agent in the destination, and for gluten-free positioning the starch source matters directly.

Beyond that, specify mesh, colour and moisture.

Hygroscopicity is more acute than for granulated sugar because of the surface area, so packaging barrier against destination humidity is a practical requirement rather than a refinement. Confirm shelf life under those conditions rather than accepting a temperate figure.

Icing sugar classifies apart from granulated in some schedules, and the anti-caking agent raises a separate additive-approval question. Confirm the classification and the additive position together, since either can hold a shipment.
