Retail Maple Syrup: export from Canada to ASEAN

Retail maple syrup is a branded consumer product, and the questions are different from the bulk trade. Pack format, closure, label language, grade declaration and whether you are buying a Canadian brand or a private-label programme all sit ahead of the syrup itself.

Glass carries the premium positioning and the freight cost and breakage risk that come with it. PET is lighter, cheaper to ship and increasingly accepted at mid-tier retail. The traditional metal tin sells as a gift item and travels well, which matters for the significant gifting segment in several Asian markets.

Private label is widely available from Quebec packers at export-relevant volumes, and it is often the better route for a distributor with existing retail relationships. The trade-off is that you own the brand-building rather than importing one.

The labelling work is the gating item on this product more than on most, because retail packs carry consumer-facing particulars that vary by destination. Get artwork reviewed before you commit to a print run.
