Oat Beverage: export from Canada to ASEAN

Oat beverage is the fastest-growing plant-based category and Canada has a genuine position in it, because the oats come from the domestic crop and the provenance story is real rather than assembled.

The technical variables are the enzyme system that converts the oat starch and determines sweetness and mouthfeel, the stabiliser system, and separation behaviour over shelf life in warm storage, which is where formulations validated in temperate conditions most often fail.

Barista and standard formulations are different products; the barista version is formulated to foam and to resist curdling in acidic coffee, and a buyer serving the cafe channel should specify it explicitly.

As with juice, the freight arithmetic favours a base or concentrate shipped to a destination bottler over finished ready-to-drink, unless the positioning is genuinely premium. Fortification and protein claims are regulated and differ by market.

Plant-based beverages classify apart from dairy milk, and the specific line can turn on composition and added ingredients. Confirm the position for the exact formulation, since a fortified product may classify differently from a plain one.
