Split Green Peas: export from Canada to ASEAN

Split green peas are whole green peas decorticated and split, and as with yellow splits the quality question is mostly about the processing rather than the crop. Split percentage, the proportion of broken pieces, colour consistency and dust content separate a good container from a poor one, and all four are functions of the processing line.

The difference from yellow splits is that colour carries more weight here, because the product is usually visible in the finished dish. A bleached or uneven lot is a commercial problem even when it cooks correctly.

End uses run from soups and dal through to snack and prepared-food manufacture. Ask for the split tolerance, maximum fines and colour standard in writing, and agree how they are verified at load rather than on arrival.

Two offers on the same nominal product from the same crop year can differ materially depending on the processor, so price alone is not a comparison.
