Green Whole Peas: export from Canada to ASEAN

Green whole peas are bought for appearance as much as for eating quality, which makes colour the governing specification. The commercial risk specific to this product is bleaching: field weather late in the season fades the green, and bleached peas are downgraded even when they are otherwise sound.

That makes crop year and colour tolerance the two terms worth pinning down in writing. A buyer supplying retail or a visible application cannot take the same colour tolerance as one supplying soup manufacture or splitting.

Beyond colour, specify size uniformity, moisture, foreign material and defect tolerance. If the intention is to split locally, ask about splitting yield, which is a function of the crop and the seed size rather than of the processor.

Production sits across Saskatchewan and Alberta on a single annual harvest, so contracting follows the crop year rather than a rolling supply.
