Field Peas

Field peas are Canada's largest pulse crop and the most versatile in end use, which is exactly why grade matters more here than elsewhere. The same crop goes to human consumption, to splitting, to pet food, to feed compounding and to protein fractionation, and those buyers are not looking for the same thing.

Whole peas are bought on colour, size uniformity and splitting yield if the buyer intends to split locally. Split peas are bought on the quality of the splitting itself: split percentage, fines and colour consistency are functions of the processor rather than the field.

State the intended end use when you enquire. It changes the grade you should be quoted and moves price more than any other variable.
