Herring Roe: export from Canada to ASEAN

Herring roe has a long-established and demanding market in East and Southeast Asia, and the grading is fine-grained: size, colour, firmness and maturity each move the price, and adjacent grades can differ substantially in value.

Maturity is the parameter that governs everything. The harvest window is narrow and the roe has to be taken at the right point in the cycle: too early and the yield is low, too late and the texture fails. This is why the fishery calendar and the commercial calendar have to be aligned in advance rather than negotiated in season.

The product is sold salted, frozen or further processed, and each is a separate specification layer on top of the raw grade.

State the grade, the processing and the intended presentation. The same raw material reaches very different values depending on all three.

Fish roe classifies separately from the fish, and processed or salted roe may sit in a different line again from frozen. Send the processing state with the destination so the position we confirm is the right one.
