Bacon: export from Canada to ASEAN

Bacon is a processed product and carries the compliance load of one: ingredient declaration, nitrite and additive levels, allergens, and usually a product registration on top of the establishment eligibility that governs the raw pork.

The product specification is the cure formulation, smoke profile, slice thickness, slices per pack and the belly specification underneath it: lean ratio and thickness determine what the finished slice looks like.

For foodservice buyers, slice count consistency and portion weight matter more than the recipe. For retail, pack presentation and shelf life under destination conditions decide it.

Nitrite levels and permitted additives differ by destination and are a common cause of a formulation needing to change for export. Settle that before a production run rather than after, since it can force a reformulation and a fresh registration.

Cured and processed pork classifies well away from fresh or frozen cuts, and the duty position frequently differs substantially. That gap is worth confirming before deciding whether to export the raw belly or the finished bacon.

MFN duty is the destination's applied general rate for this tariff line. Preferential is the rate under an agreement in force between Canada and that market. Both are customs duty only: destination excise, value-added tax and local levies are additional and are not shown here.
