Pet-Grade Oils: export from Canada to ASEAN
Pet-grade oils (poultry fat, fish oil and plant oils) are bought for their fatty acid profile, palatability contribution and energy density, and they are among the most oxidation-prone ingredients in a pet food formulation.
Stability is therefore the specification that matters most. Peroxide value at load, the antioxidant system used, and expected oxidation over storage in destination conditions are the practical terms. An oil that arrives already oxidising damages palatability and shelf life across the whole finished product.
Fish oils carry the omega-3 positioning that premium formulations are sold on, and also the fastest oxidation, so they need the tightest handling.
Animal-origin import requirements apply to rendered animal fats and are confirmed for the specific species and process. Plant oils sit in a different regulatory position, which sometimes makes them the more practical route into a restricted market.
Animal fats and plant oils classify separately and carry quite different import requirements: plant oils sit outside the animal-origin controls entirely, which sometimes makes them the practical route into a restricted market.
