Canola Meal: export from Canada to ASEAN

Canola meal is the co-product of crushing and it is a feed ingredient, not a food one: a distinction that changes the regulatory route, the buyer and the documentation. Its market is dairy, aquaculture and compound feed, and it is bought on protein content, fibre, moisture and consistency of supply.

The attribute Canadian canola meal is bought for is its amino acid profile in dairy rations, where it competes against soybean meal on performance rather than purely on protein percentage. For aquaculture feed formulators the relevant questions are fibre and anti-nutritional factors, which vary with processing.

Because meal is produced continuously wherever seed is crushed, supply is steadier than the harvest cycle implies, but it is also tied to crush margin: when crushing slows, meal availability follows. Buyers running continuous feed programmes should contract forward rather than assume spot.

State your species and ration when you enquire. A dairy formulator and a shrimp feed producer are asking about the same product and optimising entirely different parameters.
