Rolled Oats: export from Canada to ASEAN
Rolled oats are a processed product, and the specification is about the processing rather than the field. Flake thickness, whether the oat is whole-flaked or cut before rolling, moisture and bulk density determine cooking time, texture and how the product behaves in a bar or a cereal, and they vary between mills.
Because oats are steamed and kilned as part of processing, the microbiological profile is different from a raw grain, which matters to manufacturers buying for ready-to-eat applications. Ask about the processing route rather than assuming it.
Canadian oat production and milling are substantial, with growing concentrated on the prairies and processing capacity that supplies both retail and industrial buyers. Supply is more even through the year than for a raw grain, since milling buffers the annual harvest.
For buyers, specify flake type, thickness and moisture, and state the application (instant, regular, industrial inclusion) because it changes which product you should be quoted. For exporters, the application question is the fastest route to quoting the right thing.
