Oat Groats: export from Canada to ASEAN

Groats are dehulled oat kernels, the intermediate between whole oats and rolled product. They are bought by processors who want to control the final flaking or cutting themselves, and by food manufacturers using whole groats directly.

The specification points are kernel size, groat integrity (the proportion of whole versus broken) moisture, and whether the groats have been steamed and kilned. That last point matters for microbiological profile and for shelf life, since raw groats retain lipase activity that causes rancidity.

Ask about the heat treatment explicitly rather than assuming it. It is the difference between a product with a long stable shelf life and one that goes off in a warm warehouse.

Canadian oat processing runs year-round, so supply is steadier than the annual crop implies. Groat integrity is the parameter that most affects value and should be an explicit tolerance.

Dehulling changes the classification relative to whole oats, and heat treatment can matter for how a destination treats the product. Send the exact form and processing route with your enquiry so we confirm the right line.
