Savoury Snacks

Savoury snacks are a high-volume, low-density trade, which makes freight a large share of landed cost and pushes the economics toward premium positioning rather than mainstream price points. A buyer modelling a mass-market price on imported product should run that arithmetic first.

The technical variables are oil type and its oxidative stability, seasoning system, packaging barrier and nitrogen flush. Shelf life in a warm humid market is shorter than the Canadian specification suggests, and rancidity rather than staleness is usually the end point.

Flavour localisation is the commercial variable. Canadian seasoning profiles do not always transfer, and producers willing to run a destination-specific seasoning at export volumes have a real advantage.
