Whey Protein Concentrate: export from Canada to ASEAN
Whey protein concentrate is graded by protein content, and the grades are genuinely different products. Lower-protein concentrates go into bakery, confectionery and nutrition applications as a functional and economic ingredient. Higher-protein concentrates go into sports nutrition and clinical formulations where the protein itself is the product.
Beyond protein percentage, the parameters that matter are fat, lactose, solubility, gelation and flavour. Flavour is the one that decides consumer acceptance in a finished beverage and the one most often left off a specification sheet.
Canadian production comes off a supply-managed dairy sector, and as with skim milk powder that shapes availability more than it shapes quality. Forward contracting is the norm.
Specify the protein grade and the application together, and sample against your actual formulation rather than against a datasheet: functional ingredients behave differently in a real matrix, and a concentrate that performs in one beverage system can fail in another. Ask for retained samples from consecutive production lots rather than one, since batch-to-batch consistency is what a formulation actually depends on.
