Dried Cranberries: export from Canada to ASEAN
Sweetened dried cranberries are an infused product rather than simply a dehydrated one: the fruit is infused with sugar to counter natural tartness, and the infusion level, residual moisture and whether an oil coating is applied are the specification points that decide texture, clumping behaviour and shelf life.
For bakery and cereal manufacturers, the questions are water activity and whether the fruit will migrate moisture into the surrounding matrix. For snack and trail-mix packers, the question is clumping in the bag, which the coating addresses.
Canadian production is centred in Quebec and British Columbia. Supply is steadier than for wild berries because cranberries are a cultivated crop on managed bogs.
Specify sweetener type, infusion level, moisture, whether sliced or whole, and coated or uncoated. Buyers in markets with sugar-reduction pressure should ask specifically about reduced-sugar and juice-infused variants, which are available and behave differently in a formulation.
One practical note on shelf life: the infusion that makes the fruit palatable also makes its water activity the parameter that governs stability. A product that holds well in a temperate warehouse can soften and clump in a tropical one, so agree the specification against your actual storage conditions rather than against a generic datasheet, and ask whether the supplier has run it in a comparable climate.
